The night before Nov. 22nd, I set about making signs for the Occupy Wall Street rally in solidarity with Occupy Seoul’s call for an international day of action. However, overnight, everything changed. Korea’s Grand National Party had pushed through the vote, with only 170 participants among a national assembly composed of 295 total lawmakers. Looking at Twitter that morning, I could that even into the night in Korea, the police were shooting water cannons at crowds gathered on the streets to disperse them, part of their practices all winter long to violently suppress unarmed protesters.

On December 14, 2011, the Wednesday weekly protest by the Comfort Women survivors for Japan's apology & compensation will be 1,000th one.



Rain or snow, they have never skipped a week, rallying at the same place on the same day of the week, even after some of them died of old age. They have demanded the same thing each time for 999 weeks so far: an official Japanese apology and compensation for their suffering as sex slaves to the Japanese Army more than 60 years ago. The protest began with dozens of civic activists and several survivors on Jan 8, 1992. Please join Global Action Day –the1000th Wednesday Protest! There is no peace without justice.

First, there is a solidarity protest in New York and Washington D.C. in front of the Japanese Consulate Offices.
